For the past 25 years Boy George has been at the forefront of an ever-changing multi-faceted entertainment business.
Whatever he turns his talents to, from the millions of records he sold as a performer and songwriter with Culture Club and as a solo artist, to over ten years as a one of the world's most successful and in-demand International DJ's, or as a syndicated radio presenter on the Galaxy and LBC Networks, as a national newspaper columnist for the Daily Express, as the author of two best-selling autobiographies and a macrobiotic cookbook, as the co-producer, songwriter and on-stage star of the award-Winning musical 'Taboo' on both London's West End and Broadway in New York, as an elite member of the world's designer fashion hierarchy and as an inspirational and iconic figure for over two decades of street-style, or as an emerging New York fashion photographer in his own right or as the creator of his own B-Rude Fashion Label with outlets in New York, Los Angeles and London; whatever, whenever and wherever, George has made his mark with an enduring, hugely respected, and resonant series of achievements.
It's a long list (we didn't even get to George making it into the Top 50 of the BBC's 100 Greatest Britons of all time) and it continues to grow year upon year as George's tireless enthusiasm and extraordinary breadth of ability and vision reaches out to embrace ever more passions. If there is a constant factor in all of these endeavours, any one of which would merit a career and a biography all to itself, it is the integrity of an artist's belief in his own vision and a determination to succeed on his own terms in an era when compromise all too often underwrites commercial and artistic rewards. And if there is a constant thread to the panoramic breadth of his career it is his enduring and ceaseless passion for making music.
Although in recent years (in the UK at least), the spotlight has fallen too much on George's iconic media status (not all that surprising given his radiant presence, a wicked sense of humour, a provocative willingness to say exactly what he thinks and an uncanny knack for a well-turned and resonant sound-bite) and not enough on an ever-expanding and prolific musical output, it is an imbalance George is determined to redress. And in true Boy George fashion he intends to do it in style.
